COOPER — Cooper Independent School District trustees consider a “voluntary separation agreement” with high school principal Michael Ramsay during a special school board meeting tonight.
The meeting, set for 7 p.m., takes place in Room 608 in Cooper Elementary School.
Ramsay was arrested Friday, May 12, on a warrant charging the educator with indecency with a child.
In a previous report, Superintendent Lynn Burton said Ramsay has been on administrative leave since April 12.
“Although the allegations are unrelated to Ramsay's service to the school district, he remains on administrative leave at this time,” Burton said May 17.
Delta County Sheriff Mark Bassham and Sgt. John Williams began an investigation into allegations of indecency with a child last month after a tip was received from a Child Protective Services hotline, Bassham said.
Texas Ranger Roger Lough of Paris was called in to assist with the investigation.
“After the investigation was completed, it was turned over to the 8th Judicial District Attorney Martin Braddy and an arrest warrant was obtained,” Bassham said. “Ramsay turned himself in to Delta County law enforcement officials and was taken into custody around 1:30 (p.m.) Friday (May 12).”
Cooper Independent School District officials learned of the arrest the same day, Burton said.
Others matters to be considered by trustees include a waiver for the early start of school, solicitation of proposals for purchase of a school bus and a student insurance renewal for 2006-2007.
The board also plans to enter a closed session to deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, duties, discipline or dismissal of district employees, including the employment of a high school principal.
Trustees must re-convene in open session to take action on any issue discussed behind closed doors.
