Roxton Veterans memorial to be dedicated

Published May 25, 2008

Roxton’s Veterans Memorial will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Monday, with an honor guard of veterans and ceremonies remembering all of America’s heroes who have given their lives in war.

The memorial, located in a park area near the intersection of FM 38 and Honey Grove Street, sits near a fountain and is surrounded by a flagstone walk bordered with memorial bricks and benches.

On one side of the memorial are the 15 names of Roxton men who died during World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War.

On the reverse side is a poem: “Roxton Remem-bers.”

Roxton’s school band will furnish patriotic music and a five-man color guard from VFW Post 3990 from Paris will troop the colors.

Dr. Phillip R. Rutherford will deliver a short address, and next of kin will read short biographies of the fallen.

At the end of the ceremonies, a veteran will lay a wreath at the base of the monument.

Nearby Rails to Trails Museum will provide refreshments.
