Tickets are still available for a chance to win a brand new Ford Mustang and support Police Athletic League.
One lucky PAL supporter will go home with the 2007 Mustang complete with Pony Package after the March 17 drawing at Paris Ford. The sports car is valued at $23,320.
Only 3,000 tickets will be sold, and the organization still has a lot of tickets for sale.
"We've done pretty well for the first few months," Police Chief Karl Louis said of ticket sales.
A lot of people wait until the last minute to buy tickets, and the deadline is near.
"We really want to stress the time situation to the folks," Louis said.
Money raised on top of the cost of the car goes to PAL.
"We want to have enough money if we can to pay off our construction cost and put some of it into the game room," Louis said.
The car is available for viewing almost every day at Postal Options, 2720 Lamar Ave.
Tickets are on sale at Paris Police Department, Cavender's, Noble True Value Hardware, Lamar County Chamber of Commerce and The Dollar Saver.
PAL is at 138 Lamar Ave. and affords recreational opportunities to kids ages 8 to 18. The league offers martial arts, weight lifting, boxing and some tutoring. There is a $25 annual fee to attend PAL, and that fee covers medical insurance.
Police created the program in the early 1990s as a response to an increase in gang activity. The program was envisioned as a way for kids to spend their summer and after-school time.
In late 1992, The Paris News moved to its present location at 5050 Southeast Loop 286 and gave the old building to PAL. The program is staffed by law enforcement officers from across Lamar County.
PAL recently signed on as an organization benefited by Flamingo Bingo.
