Rumors about Turner Pipe replacing local employees with foreign workers are not true, the company’s vice president and plant manager Tom Glascock says.
“We are looking at supplementing our current work force through a contracting agency because we cannot find skilled welders to meet our temporary need,” Glascock explained.
Glascock wanted to clarify misinformation about the company going through Paris Economic Development Corp. and the City of Paris to gain support for the company’s plans.
“This is a company decision, and we don’t have anything firmed up at this time,” Glascock said.
“The welding market for skilled welders is very tight,” Glascock said. “There is a lot of demand for welders who are willing to travel elsewhere, and we have lost employees because we cannot compete with higher wages elsewhere.”
“Assuming we get these workers, we would pay an hourly rate to an employment company,” Glascock said.
The contract company is responsible for obtaining work visas and that company may provide housing as part of a pay package,” Glascock said.
“It is not true that the Paris Economic Development Corp. is supplementing their pay or providing housing,” Glascock concluded.
