Lady Pats begin playoffs

Published November 5, 2009

PATTONVILLE — The Prairiland Lady Patriots won the District 12-2A volleyball championship and tonight they begin their playoff run.

The Lady Patriots (31-10) take on Pilot Point, in a Class 2A area round match at 7 p.m. at Bonham High.

The Lady Patriots are also the lone team remaining from District 12-2A since runner-up Chisum lost in five games to Melissa on Tuesday, and No. 3 seeded Hooks fell in five games to Bells.

The winner of the Prairiland/Pilot Point match advances to the quarterfinal round to face the winner of the Bells/Aubrey match.

Pilot Point is the No. 3 seed from District 10-2A behind Aubrey and Pottsboro. Because no team in District 9-2A plays volleyball, Pilot Point got a first-round bye.

The Lady Patriots are making their 19th consecutive playoff appearance. Last year they lost in the area round to Aubrey.

Coach Brandon Oats and his Lady Pats won District 12-2A with a 13-1 record to earn a first-round bye. They suffered a loss to Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill on Monday in a tune-up match, falling in four games.
