The deadline is closing in on a chance to win a new, bright red Ford Mustang and support Paris Police Athletic League.
“We're going to be selling tickets all this week and next week at the corner of Collegiate and Lamar,” Louis said. “We've made a lot of good progress, but we've still got tickets we need to sell to help PAL.”
Volunteers will be at the intersection of Collegiate Drive and Lamar Avenue today though Saturday selling tickets for the drawing to be held at 6 p.m. March 17 at Paris Ford. The 2007 Mustang with Pony Package is valued at $23,320. Only 3,000 tickets will be sold at $20 each.
Tickets will be on sale until just before raffle time.
“We'll sell tickets until 5 p.m., but we'll give it away at Paris, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury at 6 p.m.,” Louis said.
Tickets are also on sale at Paris Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Paris Police Department, Cavender's, Noble True Value Hardware, Lamar County Chamber of Commerce, The Dollar Saver and Postal Options.
PAL, located at 138 Lamar Ave., affords recreational opportunities to kids ages 8 to 18. The league offers martial arts, weight lifting, boxing and some tutoring. There is a $25 annual fee to attend PAL, and that fee covers medical insurance.
Police created the program in the early 1990s as a response to an increase in gang activity. The program was envisioned as a way for kids to spend their summer and after-school time.
In late 1992, The Paris News moved to its present location at 5050 Southeast Loop 286 and gave the old building to PAL. The program is staffed by law enforcement officers from across Lamar County.
PAL recently signed on as an organization benefited by Flamingo Bingo.
