Lady Cats fall against Commerce

Published October 28, 2009

COMMERCE — It wasn’t a good time for the Paris Lady Cats to play their worst volleyball match, as they suffered a three-game loss to Commerce, 21-25, 18-25, 19-25, Tuesday night in the District 10-3A finale.

The loss was a costly one, as the Lady Cats (29-8, 8-2) needed the win to clinch the district title and earn a first-round bye. Instead, Commerce (36-5, 8-2) completed a district sweep of Paris and beat the Lady Cats for the third time this season, clinching the league championship in the process.

“We just didn’t show up to play,” Paris coach Melanie Hodges said after the match. “Not much you can say about this one. The effort just wasn’t there, and it was everybody, not just one person.”

Paris had 24 errors, including eight service errors in the match.

With the loss, Paris finishes second in district and will play its bi-district match on Tuesday against the No. 3 team from District 9-3A, either Argyle or Celina.

ShaTaylor Moore led Paris with 12 kills against Commerce. Caroline Chappell had 26 assists and 11 digs, Tiara Hall had nine kills and two blocks, Andi Bawcum had eight kills, three digs, two blocks and an ace serve, Kendall McDonald had six kills and five digs, Bailey Reavis had seven digs, Katie Cade had five digs, and Alex Garrison had 10 digs.
