Fundraiser provides quality higher education

Published October 16, 2009

Established in 1998, the North Lamar Education Foundation has awarded 441 scholarships for a total $288,750 to graduating seniors since its inception. Currently the foundation has 12 endowed scholarships, which means scholarships are awarded each year based on interest earned from each scholarship fund.

In 2009, 57 scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 were awarded to graduating seniors, giving encouragement to many students who wish to further their education beyond high school. The foundation strives to inform parents and students of the benefits of obtaining an education at the net level.

As a parent, grandparent, property owner or business owner, on-going involvement and support are vital. Contributions made to the foundation provide an integral link to the quality of education North Lamar students can receive after high school.

Scholarships can be used at junior colleges and university as well as vocational and technical school. And for those students still in high school dual credit scholarships are available, making it possible for students to earn college credits while still in high school.

What better way can this community support its future prosperity than investing in today’s youth?

Tax deductible cash and pledged donations can be made at any time along with memorials and honorariums in memory of or in honor of a family member or friend. Endowments, which are gifts of $5,000 or more to establish a separate fund within the foundation, provide yearly scholarships in perpetuity.

Endowed scholarships to date are memorials to Charles Bush, Donna Campbell, Caroyn Drake, Jeremy Dickey, Dr. Tommy Eads, Chad Rose, Thomas McVay and Tyler Thompson in addition to two FFA scholarships and the Payne band scholarship.

A NLEF scholarship fundraiser is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Love Civic Center. The event features both live and silent auctions as well as food and entertainment.

Come out for the fellowship and support an organization that keeps on giving and giving and giving.
