Winnsboro races to 48-14 win against Cooper

COOPER — The Winnsboro Raiders controlled the game and the clock with a tough rushing attack, as they raced to a 48-14 victory over the Cooper Bulldogs Friday night in District 13-2A football action.
With the loss, Cooper falls to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in district, while Winnsboro remains tied with Caddo Mills at 5-1 in district. The Raiders moved to 5-4 overall.
Things were interesting in the first quarter when Chris Ballard caught a 25-yard pass from Ty Huie to tie the score at 7-7, but the Winnsboro’s Ashton Slaughter scored three straight touchdowns on runs of 2, 41 and 7 yards to help the Raiders take a 28-7 lead into halftime.
Christian Besold led Winnsboro’s rushing with 122 yards and a touchdown, while Slaughter finished with 78 yards on eight carries.
Pee Wee Jeffery scored the Bulldogs’ final touchdown on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter. He finished with 35 yards rushing on seven carries. Montrel Roberts rushed for 43 yards on 11 totes.
Huie completed 8 of 17 passes for 96 yards and a score, but he was picked off twice.
Ballard caught four passes for 65 yards, and he recorded eight tackles on defense. Tommy Walker and Holden Jenkins both had seven tackles.
Cooper is at Grand Saline in the finale. Grand Saline (2-4, 2-7) beat Alba-Golden, 34-0 on Friday.
