Rodeo Queen, Princess to be crowned Friday

The Paris Rodeo and Horse Club will crown its 2009-2010 rodeo queen and princess Friday night during the rodeo.

This year’s contest includes two queen contestants and seven princess contestants.

“It was a good competition – very well organized,” said Lindsay Beitel, one of the judges. “There was some stiff competition; all the competitors were well-prepared and would represent the rodeo club well.”

The newly crowned winners will take over for 2008-2009 PRHC Queen Katie Smelley, daughter of Greg and Kelly Smelley, and 2008-2009 Princess Raelee Self, daughter of Robert Self and Heidi Miller.

The contest consists of a horseback riding pattern, a speech an interview and a modeling portion.

Lisa McLeod and Katie White are the queen contestants.

McLeod is the 13-year-old daughter of James and Cindy McLeod of Paris. She is sponsored by Steve’s Sales Service.

White, 15, is the daughter of Rodney and Julie White of Sumner. She is sponsored by Lazy W Automa-tion of Sumner.

Seven princesses will compete for the 2009-2010 title.

Jentri Haivala is the youngest contestant at 4 years of age. She is the daughter of Josh and Rachel Haivala of Pattonville and is sponsored by Upstage Salon & Tanning and Anderson Bucking Bulls.

Ciara Cole Covington, 12, of Hugo, Okla., is the daughter of Marta Covington. She is sponsored by 271 Equip-ment Sales & Rental in Hugo.

Stephanie Taylor Fontenot, 10, is the daughter of Steven Fontenot of Blossom and is sponsored by Quick-silver Arenas.

Summer Andrews is the 8-year-old daughter of James and Pepper Andrews of Blossom. She is sponsored by Andrews Rodeo Company.

Alysia McCorm-ick, 8, is the daughter of Kristye Oates of Blossom. She is sponsored by Paris Vineyards.

Amelia Preston, 12, is the daughter of Keith and Jennifer Preston of Paris. She is sponsored by Paris Neuro-surgical Associ-ates.

McKayla Figueroa, 8, is the daughter of Chad Figueroa of Paris. She is sponsored by Animal Health Center.

The 50th annual Paris Rodeo runs today through Saturday.
