My heart goes out to the family of Amanda Mathews. My daughter was killed in a car wreck Feb. 3, 2007, in Dallas. The driver only got a ticket for no insurance. She also left behind two children, who will never see their mother again.

Another family member was killed in Tarrant County by a truck — hit and run, in 1995, and still no one has been charged. There has been no closure at all for the family.

I grew up in Paris, and I learned long ago that there is no judicial system in Lamar County. but now I think it is also in other counties as well. May God bless the Mathews family.
