Paris/Lamar County Health Department has a new family nurse practitioner who says she has “found her niche” in Paris.
On the job about a month, Cecelia M. Kane, comes to Paris from the Northeast, a graduate of Rutgers University in Camden, N. J. She grew up in New York state.
A sister and her mother came to Paris a several years ago after Kenneth Rogers, pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church and human resources director at Campbell Soup Co. moved here from New Jersey where he served as associate pastor at the church the family attended.
“I came to visit a couple of years ago and decided Paris is where I want to be,” Kane said.
She serves in the music and media ministry at St. Paul’s and says she “does as little bit of everything” at the church.
Prior to taking the job at the health clinic, Kane worked a year and a half at a Choctaw Nation Clinic in Oklahoma. She served about 20 years with the military public health service.
Kane has ambitions for one of about 60 local health departments remaining in Texas.
“I want to provide quality holistic care,” Kane said about her “vision for this health department.”
She credited her supervising physician, Dr. Jon Plummer for being committed to the clinic.
“He is so giving and so committed to caring and teaching,” Kane said.
The family nurse practitioner said her goal is to “serve anyone who wants to come to our clinic.”
She expressed a need for a connection with specialists to whom she could refer patients with specific problems.
“I would love to see some of our community’s specialty doctors get on board with us,” Kane said.
Kane sees patients Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays while attending the University of Texas — Arlington to receive additional certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
“We really have a need here in that area,” Kane concluded.
