The driver of a white sport utility vehicle, who is believed to have fired shots and then led Paris police on a vehicle and foot chase Sunday night through several residential neighborhoods in northeast Paris, may have been identified.
Paris Police Department officials are not releasing the name of the individual as the investigation continues.
Officers responded to a 911 call of shots fired in the vicinity of 5th N.E. and Tudor streets, which may have been coming from a white SUV.
“Officers observed two vehicles matching the description and made contact,” public information officer Matt Birch said early today. “While making contact with the second white SUV, the driver of the first then immediately left the area and was observed running a stop sign.”
A vehicle chase developed through several residential areas at high rates of speed, Birch said.
Following one attempt to deploy stop sticks to slow the vehicle and end the pursuit, officers were successful on a second attempt on 3rd N.E. Street.
The driver fled on foot, running toward a field in the 400 block of Tudor Street and eventually into a crowd in the 500 block of Tudor, where the incident initially took place, Birch said. “There, officers lost sight of the suspect,” Birch said. Shell casings were found in the vehicle, along with alcohol. “A positive ID has been made on the driver of the SUV, but is currently being withheld while the investigation continues,” Birch said.
