The United Way of Lamar County has one more week to “climb the mountain” and achieve this year’s $475,000 fundraising campaign goal, Robert High, United Way president, said Friday.
“The experienced mountain climber is not intimidated by a mountain; he is inspired by it,” High said during the campaign’s fifth report meeting at the Boy Scouts of America, a United Way agency. “The persistent winner is not discouraged by a problem; he is challenged by it. Mountains are created to be conquered; adversities are designed to be defeated; problems are sent to be solved. It is better to master one mountain than a thousand foothills.”
Campaign chairman Rudy Kessel said the campaign has currently collected $371,293 in pledges or 78.2 percent of the campaign’s goal. At the same time last year, the campaign was at 68.4 percent of goal.
The campaign will end with the final report meeting Friday, Oct. 30 at the Children’s Advocacy Center, another United Way agency.
“Let’s keep plowing,” Kessel said. “There are still a lot of calls out there to make.”
Stephen Gerrald, chair of the Small Business Division, announced the division has climbed its mountain, totaling $21,727 or 103.5 percent of its $21,000 goal. Gerrald credited the efforts of agency volunteers who helped call on potential donors for the division’s success.
The Industry Division reported $267,288 in pledges during the meeting, which is 83.53 percent of the division’s $320,000 goal. Kenny Daus is the chairman.
The Commercial Division has $44,531.58 in pledges, chair Patrick Graham announced, equaling 68.5 percent of the division’s $65,000 goal.
The Schools Division has raised $22,716.70 in pledges, which is 78.33 percent of the division’s $29,000 goal. The division’s chairs are Kelly Pickle, Kenneth Webb and Leslie Watson.
The Professional Division has raised $8,050 in pledges or 53.7 percent of the division’s $15,000 goal. Dr. Bob Phillips and Stephen Walker chair the division.
The Mail Contact Division has raised $5,080 in pledges, which is 28.22 percent of the division’s $18,000 goal. Vic Ressler is the chair.
The Government Division has raised $1,900.76 in pledges, which is 27.2 percent of its $7,000 goal. The chair is Judge Chuck Superville.
