Wildcats to play final game in Noyes Stadium

Published October 28, 2009

The Paris Wildcats prepare to celebrate 68-years of memories as the team defends its 10-3A district title against the Bonham Warriors Friday night in the team’s final game in Noyes Stadium on the Paris Junior College campus.

Memories of the historic stadium continue to be posted at www.noyesmemories.com. Fans also can hear soundbites of memories on local radio stations Friday leading up to the game as well as during the Friday night Wildcat game.

We encourage alumni to share memories of times gone by. Just as Sally Logee Neel did about marching in the band directed by Floyd Weger in 1972.

“We made lots of noise at Noyes Stadium,” she stated. She remembered playing “On Wisconsin” and “Loyal and True at “those exciting touchdown moments, enjoying the Fourth of July fireworks and those FIGHTING WILDCATS.”

Tom Pursifull lived in the neighborhood by Noyes Stadium as a young boy.

“My mother would take me on Friday nights to watch the Wildats and also PJC. I guess that started my love for the game. I had the best years playing in high school, especially the 1968-1969 season. We were an awesome team. Noyes Stadium will be missed.”

Bo Miles remembers bundling up on cold nights and sitting in the same spot each year. “It was quite a social event,” he recalled. “As I got into junior high it was still a social event but we changed our focus from Frito chili pie, made in the bag, to girls.”

Burl Hicks remembers 1979 — McKinney coming into Paris ranked No. 1.

“Opening kickoff Kirk Cobb caused a fumble. They left Paris losing 15-14 in one of my dad’s biggest wins as head coach of the Wildcats,” Hicks stated.

Friday’s festivities will include the sharing of these memories and more throughout the game with the celebration culminating in a post-game ceremony. Fans are asked to call in memories (15 seconds or less) to either radio station KOYN (903-784-4494) or MIX 1077 (903-784-1077) or post memories online at www.noyesmemories.com

Memories will remain in the hearts of Paris Wildcat fans forever, long after the final Paris High School game is played at Noyes Stadium.

We encourage fans to fill the stadium Friday night to bid the historical stadium “goodbye” in style.
