Responsible

I am the boyfriend of Amanda Gail Lindsey. Amanda passed away after a car accident in April 2008. I was responsible for her death. I would first like to express my deepest apologies to her family and friends, to the community and also to my family.
I am truly sorry and I know I can never right this wrong.
After making a deal with Bill Harris to lessen punishment, I pled guilty to intoxicated manslaughter and was given 10 years probation and nine months to two years rehabilitation.
I understand Amanda’s family’s anger towards this outcome and although asked, forgiveness will probably never be granted.
Instead of being sent to prison I was given help to become a better person in life and hopefully one day succeed and excel. Prison offers no help, and I know if I ever go it will become a cycle. I would never become a contributing member to society.
Prior to Amanda’s death, we were trying to build a life together. What people fail to realize is I lost Amanda as well. Not only did I lose Amanda, I am responsible for her death.
So, before I let Amanda’s death be in vain, I will become the man she would want me to be and get help.
Finally, I am sorry that her family and others were not satisfied about my sentence and feel some type of injustice was served, but I know on Oct. 1, 2009, Amanda was smiling down on me.
