Hello from Rhode Island
By Anthony Semedo
Contributor
Published October 26, 2009
I am writing to say “hello” from the smallest state in the country.
I am a seventh grade student at Goff Junior HIgh School in Powtucket, R.I.
For my geography class we are working on a semester-long project on a particular U.S. state and I chose the biggest state in the country — Texas.
If you could please publish this letter in your paper so that your readers could help me on this project, I would appreciate it. If your readers could send me some information like pictures of tourist information I would appreciate that, too. Just send the information right to me at school. It would really help me with my project.
Thank you for your help.

A note from Anthony’s instructor, Brian Gilmore, follows.
Let me take a minute to tell you about our school and students. Pawtucket is an urban school district founded in the birthplace of the mill industry with the first water-powered mill. Slater Mill is not more than a five-minute walk from our school.
Like any urban school district, Pawtucket has its share of challenges. Roughly about 80 percent of our students qualify for the free or reduced lunch program. However, Goff Junior High School is the only high performing junior high school in the district. The students take an active interest in school and responsibility for their studies.
