Annual Earnest Hawkins Classic a success

WOLFE CITY — The 2009 Ernest Hawkins Golf Classic was held Friday at Webb Hill Country Club. The annual golf tournament honors the all-time winningest football coach in university history and serves as the primary fundraiser for the athletic program.
Participants that include alumni and fans gather for a round of golf, a meal and an auction. In addition to the 53 golfers present, on hand for the event were A&M-Commerce alumni, cheerleaders, coaches and staff as well as the family of Ernest Hawkins.
Prizes were awarded to the top three teams and the winning team consisted of Blake Worden, Randy Wade, Noelle Garcia and Dr. Jeff Wallace. A scorecard playoff was needed to break a tie for second. Winning the playoff was the team of head men’s basketball coach Sam Walker, Paul Peak, Doug Peak and Clint Dolezel and third was Brandon Gilliam, Taylor Fore, Scott Hicks and Andy Carter.
